Programs offered at P = Portola; E = Excelsior; P & E = Portola and Excelsior
Case Management (P & E)
Intensive individual and family support addresses such needs as childcare, schools, housing, employment, and basic family needs. Clients work with case managers to create plans, set goals, and make positive changes in their lives.
Community Events (P & E)
Community gatherings provide opportunities for families to socialize, network, share cultural practices, and have fun. These events include Lunar New Year, Halloween, Winter Holiday, movie nights, field trips, and more!
Educational Workshops (P & E)
Family Connections offers three ongoing series of workshops: 1) Nurturing Parents which provides parents/caregivers with information about child development along with strategies and techniques they can use at home to promote emotional health and school readiness; 2) Linking for School Success series which promotes school success including school enrollment, bullying prevention and response, children’s use of social media, and preparing for college; and 3) Family Economic Success series which supports families with financial knowledge and ability to navigate within various financial institutions—from banks and credit unions to government service agencies.
Information & Referral (P & E)
Informal (walk-in or telephone) services provide individuals and families with materials and referrals to specific service providers. Family Connections staff speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Parent Advisory Board (P & E)
These monthly forums for parents/caregivers provide feedback on Family Connections programs, plan community events, share resources, advocate for community needs, and build leadership skills.
Parenting Classes (P & E)
The ten-week series, offered in English, Spanish and Cantonese, follows the evidence-based 1-2-3 Magic curriculum, which helps parents encourage responsible behavior and strengthens the parent-child bond.
Respite Care (P)
Respite care provided a monthly opportunity for parents/ caregivers to have a break. Children enjoy a healthy dinner, literary activities, movies, and arts & crafts at our center supervised by two teachers, while their parents/caregivers relax on their own.
Support Groups (P & E)
These weekly meetings are held in conjunction with early childhood activities and provide parents/caregivers a supportive space to discuss family concerns and share resources, as well as participate in health and nutrition workshops, exercise, and cultural activities. Support Groups are respectively offered in Spanish and Cantonese.
